This innovationworks on self-developed algorithm to detect sleep using a Smartphone with the help of the phone’s inbuilt accelerometer sensor and attached heart rate sensor. Through this innovation, people can easily and seamlessly measure their sleep, without requiring a lot of technical know-how, while helping to diagnose a very commonly occurring disease of Sleep Apnea. This technology will also help the doctors to track and study the sleeping habits of patients remotely.
"Our aim was to build a low-cost portable device controlled by patient’s Android Smartphone, to measure sleep. The device is easy to use and consists of airflow (rate of respiration), Pulse Oximeter (heart Rate And Spo2), Accelerometer (PLM), and EEG (Brain Waves) Sensors. The data storage is cloud based. Summarized results can be seen on phones of doctors as well as patients. The product serves as a screening device for Sleep Apnea.", said Dr.VinayakNaik.
Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Award takes consideration of the students’innovations which use significantly less material/energy to create sustainable solutions. Frugality and creating value for money by using lesser material, energy, and resource was the key focus while benchmarking such innovations.
"We extend our gratitude to Dr. R.A. Mashelkar, Chairperson, Research Advisory Committee, SRISTI and NIF. This is a proud moment for us to achieve Gandhian young technological award."Dr.Naik further said.
