Abstract: After carrying out energy audit at Kadvani forge LTD., Lodhika G.I.D.C. in 7th semester. And we came to know about power consumption by various mechanical and electrical entities. We gave them some suggestive measures like replacement of old compressors, replace the damaged capacitors etc. As these entities were not efficient enough. And these all suggestions are implemented. We observed that there was some wastage of power in the office territory, when the authorized person goes into the plant for some inspection. So we took this as an IDP in the 8th semester and designed a circuit to control the power wastage. By use of this circuit we can reduce this wastage of power, with the help of microcontroller module. This circuit consist of two sensor modules which scenes the position of authorized person. If he/she is not present in the office territory the power supply will be automatically get tripped. Even when the person enters in the office the power supply will again get switched ON. The same purpose can be solved with the help of microwave sensors, such sophisticated designs are available in the market but they are having very high cost. Our aim is to design such module that can be implemented even in the medium and small scale industries (office).

Abstract: Our project is 560VA/12V MOSFET BASED COMBO DIGITAL INVERTER/UPS. Basically inverter is DC to AC converter. All home appliances required ac supply. This inverter provides a supply in any circumstances. An inverter takes power from main supply and keeps battery full charged. At the time of load shedding these small inverter installed in different establishment start running and supplying power to appliances. Thus on nation level these small gadgets are collectively doing the job of equalizing generated power and minimizing the demand supply gap. Another important application is stand by source of power in case of an emergency. Our inverter producing the output voltage (230 + 10%) AC RMS to suit the voltage level of the gadgets. Its frequency is (50+1%)Hz. Its operating temperature range is 0 to 60 ºC. Through tabular batteries are more technically suitable for an inverter, automobile grade batteries are popular because of low price. Our inverter is used as the UPS also. When main voltage fluctuates below 160V and above 250V then inverter cuts the main supply and takes whole load on it. This way it protects important equipment from under and over voltage problems.

Abstract: Rapid growth of non- linear load such as power electric controlled equipment and arc furnace are creating harmonics and voltage distortion problem in power network. An electric arc furnace is unbalanced, non- linear and time varying load, which cause problem to the power system quality. These load deviate the system voltage and current waveform from sinusoidal nature causing even and odd number of harmonics. The problems need to be rectified in the EAF .Therefore, an optimal model is necessary to tackle the problems. Also, the characteristic of the time response of the EAF has an important role in the power quality issue. In this study different electric arc furnace models will be studied from power quality point of view. Simulation of the same is done using an appropriate software tool such as MATLAB for the purpose of voltage and current distortion analysis. The electric arc are used to provide the high temp necessary for melting process. So,to be able to understand the operation of an electric arc furnace,it is required to understand the nature of an electric arc furnace. In an electric arc its physical, thermal and electrical properties are not uniform all over the arc.the EAF model in the time domain and frequency domain, shows that the modeling in the time domain is more useful in studying the arc furnace elements and EAF analysis. But the frequency domain models are more helpful for harmonic analysis of the external network .The main issue is the modeling of the arc in the EAF. So,in this work we have analyzed different models using Time-Domain method.

Abstract: I got the opportunity to get my vocational training in Reliance Petroleum Limited, Jamnagar, in the month of June 2011 and during the training I got my IDP from the company and my Industrial Defined Problem topic was suggested to me by my mentor. The topic for my IDP is 220 V DC UPS / Charger Reliability. In the company the equipments requiring DC supply are connected to the DC distribution Board, and the DC distribution board is supplied from the Float Charger. Along with the float charger a Float cum Boost Charger is also connected in the system. A battery is also connected in the system along with FC and FCBC. The float charger supplies the load and also it float charges the battery. When the float charger is in ON state the FCBC is kept OFF. The float charger gets its supply from the company’s own power plant. When the FC faces a failure then the FCBC is brought into action, to continue the supply. The main reason for the FC failure is the mains failure. But as the FC gets the main supply from the CPP plant so the mains failure is a rare occasion and hence it continues working and hence the FCBC is kept OFF for a longer duration of time. Due to this long OFF state of the FCBC, some of the problems are set up into it which are detected only at the time it is started and not before when it is in OFF state as no current flows through it when it is in OFF state. So due to these problems the FCBC does not operate when it is supposed to, and hence the desired DC output is not obtained and so the supply to the DC DB fails and as a result all the systems relying on the DC DB for the supply also faces failure. So the reliability of the entire system is poor. So if we can get the solution regarding these problems then the reliability of the entire system can be enhanced. In the month of December 2012, I again got the opportunity of training in the company and during my training, the solution by which the reliability of the system could be enhanced was found out, which helped me complete my project.

Abstract: Power line communication (PLC) presents an interesting and economical solution for Automatic Meter Reading (AMR). If an AMR system via PLC is set in a power delivery system, a detection system for illegal electricity usage may be easily added in the existing PLC network. In the detection system, the second digital energy meter chip is used and the value of energy is stored. The recorded energy is compared with the value at the main kilo Watt-hour meter. In the case of the difference between two recorded energy data, an error signal is generated and transmitted via PLC network. The detector and control system is proposed. The architecture of the system and their critical components are given. The measurement results are given. Abstract: The focus of this work is a systematic study of the passive gait of a compass-like, planar, biped robot on inclined slopes. The robot is kinematically equivalent to a double pendulum, possessing two kneeless legs with point masses and a third point mass at the "hip" joint. Three parameters, namely, the ground-slope angle and the normalized mass and length of the robot describe its gait. We show that in response to a continuous change in any one of its parameters, the symmetric and steady stable gait of the unpowered robot gradually evolves through a regime of bifurcations characterized by progressively complicated asymmetric gaits, eventually arriving at an apparently chaotic gait where no two steps are identical. The robot can maintain this gait indefinitely. We present a novel graphical technique based on the first return map that compactly captures the entire evolution of the gait, from symmetry to chaos. Additional passive dissipative elements in the robot joint result in a significant improvement in the stability and the versatility of the gait, and provide a rich repertoire for simple control laws. Keywords: Biped, gait, langrage motion equation, compass-gait, degree of freedom, actuation, positive definite matrix and semi-definite matrix, planar, bifurcation, orbital stability, enthromorphic gait, acrobat, chaos, prismatic joint, hybrid.

Abstract: Induction generators are being increasingly used in non-conventional energy systems such as wind, micro/mini hydro, etc. The advantages of using induction generator are reduced unit cost and size, ruggedness, brushless (in squirrel cage construction), absence of separate dc source, ease of maintenance, self protection against severe overloads and short circuits etc. Induction generators and motors produce electrical power when their rotor is rotated faster than the synchronous speed. In generator operation, a prime mover (turbine, engine) is driving the rotor above the synchronous speed. Stator flux still induces currents in the rotor, but since the opposing rotor flux is now cutting the stator coils, active current is produced in stator coils, and motor is now operating as a generator, and sending power back to the electrical grid. The syestem we have taken under consideration is an Induction Generator connected to Wind Turbine (prime mover). The excitation can be provided either by grid connection or shunt capacitors. In our approach we propose to do the following things: • Study the d-q or dynamic equivalent model of Induction Generator • Implementation of d-q or dynamic equivalent model of Induction Generator using MATLAB/Simulink • Control and maintain the generator output using PID and Fuzzy Logic Controller and compare the response of the system for both the controllers for different wind speed • Design Fuzzy logic controller

Abstract: Electrical energy is most essential in day-to-day life. An electrical power system consists of generators, transformers, transmission and distribution lines etc. The electrical power is generated at generating stations or power stations. This generated power is stepped up and is transmitted through transmission lines. This transmitted power is stepped down at substations and is distributed to the consumers through feeders. During the transmission, faults can occur, which causes damage to the power system equipments. The system also loses its stability during fault conditions. If a fault occurs in an element of a power system, an automatic protective device is needed to isolate the faulty element as quickly as possible to keep the healthy section of the system in normal position. A protective scheme includes circuit breakers and protective relays to isolate the faulty section of the system from the healthy sections. These protective elements should be able to analyze the type of fault that occurred during abnormal conditions. In this, we have analyzed different types of faults over a transmission line placed between two substations of 100km length. The simulation studies is carried out using Power World simulator, and the results obtained is verified theoretically.

Abstract: ABSTRACT Basically in electrical system various kind of motors are available for the performing certain action. Basically we using DC motor in tractive systems but every motor has its limitations of working, therefore we are using linear induction motor for performing traction systems for more suitable performances than DC motor. So, for LIM based operation, we have check weather all the possibilities are available are satisfy or not there we have to check the various protecting schemes. Basically, in LIM systems if we are using LIM then we have to check various materials for the protection of a outer cage of a model so, a systems should be such that it can protect the outer cage of models and protect from the surrounding materials. So that, by using CATIA Software of 3D, we just analyze what kind of effect of the various material’s magnetic field and what is the range of spred of field of a particular materials therefore by using CATIA, we just show that effect of magnetic field of particular materials and so that by known value of field we can protect and apply summery to the outer cage of linear induction motor based of linear induction motor based systems basically. So, in this project we just have check the effect of the magnetic field due to various kind of surrounding materials using linear induction motor in CATIA software basically to protect the LIM based schemes basically. Here we can say that with the using of the FEM software we can also analyze the final output of the magnetic field basically.
